Farm Overview

Abu Coffee Plantations is an emerging presence in Panama's prestigious coffee landscape, well-regarded as the Geisha capital of the world. Although it hasn't yet reached the sky-high prices of some renowned producers in Boquete and Volcan, such as Hacienda Esmeralda and Elida Estate, Abu Coffee offers exceptional quality at more approachable price points. The farm is managed by Jose Luttrell, a former working engineer who transitioned to focusing on his family’s coffee endeavor, with a particular interest in cultivating and selling Geisha. Having overcome initial export challenges, the quality of Abu’s coffee has only improved over time, and we are eager to share this exceptional coffee with you.

Prime Location and Growing Conditions

Located in the Canas Verdes region of Boquete, Abu Coffee benefits from a humid and rainy microclimate typical of tropical forests. The coffee is grown on the nutrient-rich volcanic slopes of the Baru Volcano National Park, which offer fertile soil with excellent drainage, reducing erosion concerns. The average growing altitude is 1,550 meters. Native trees provide natural shade, promoting biodiversity and environmental harmony while respecting the local ecosystem.

The farm's strategic geographic location allows for optimal exposure to sunlight, crucial for coffee growth. Daily, the plantation enjoys intense solar radiation, softened in the mornings and evenings by a tropical mist known as "Bajareque," and enveloped by dense fog—factors that collectively create ideal growing conditions.

Harvest and Processing

The harvest season begins around December and continues through March, coinciding with a decrease in humidity levels. This period, combined with the natural shade and the mist of Bajareque, creates the perfect balance for optimal cherry maturation. The conditions during these months allow cherries to fully develop their potential, enhancing sugar concentration and enriching flavor profiles, resulting in beans of remarkable quality.

Whether you're a seasoned coffee aficionado or new to discovering specialty coffees, Abu Coffee invites you to experience the unique and complex flavors cultivated in Panama's tropical paradise.
